Volunteer Investigator, Interviewer and Writer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Work to Be Done:

Assist the Development Director to investigate, interview, and write biographies and stories about staff and clients whose experiences exemplify the agency’s work and impact in the community. Wide latitude available for creative person who enjoys investigating interesting lives and writing about them with eventual possibility of publication in agency publications. Help write and create CMAA’s newsletters, annual reports, brochures, exhibit materials, etc.

Examples of Activities:

Investigate, interview and write about lives of staff, clients, former staff or clients and other community members from the perspective of their involvement with CMAA. Help write/create newsletters, annual reports, brochures, exhibit display materials, etc.

Friendly, flexible, productive team player interested in relating to culturally diverse immigrants, refugees and communities.

Qualifications Sought:

1. Attitude of hospitality and desire to apply and/or improve skills related to journalism, social work, sociology, psychology, anthropology, law, or similar (prospective) career or hobby
2. Empathetic listening skills; nonjudgment; unconditional positive regard for all people
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
4. Computer skills in office-related programs, including MS Word and Excel.
5. Desire to be creative explorer and respond to interesting stories as they may arise
6. Bilingual skills in Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Spanish or other language can be helpful.

Main Office.

How often:

As arranged on a flexible basis, at least once a week for 2-3 hours. More frequent help is welcome.

How many hours per week:

at least 2-3 hours

Length of minimum commitment sought:

Trial period available. Minimum 6-month commitment desired after trial period.

Dates/hours preferred:

Flexible to availability of volunteer.
