Rally at Thompson Center tomorrow

CMAA clients, students, and staff plan on participating in a rally at Thompson Center tomorrow, protesting Illinois legislature's recent budget cuts that would cut 50% of the social service programs the state provides.

These budget decisions affect everyone in the community, especially immigrants, refugees, low-income adults, children, and seniors. CMAA will be fighting for at-risk programs within the agency that include the youth program and the summer youth camp, home care for disabled seniors, the family literacy program, and ESL and computer literacy classes. Other regional programs at risk include mental health treatment programs, domestic violence services, homeless prevention programs, and after-school programs for youth, among others.

The rally begins on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 11:30 am. To get to the rally, take the red line to State and Lake, and head west to the Thompson Center, located on 100 W. Randolph Street. Look for individuals wearing yellow vests. The rally should continue for approximately one hour.
