ALANA SLEZAK MASEBE

Manager

BA, Women's Studies, Denison University

Alana Slezak Masebe was born and raised in Clarendon Hills, Illinois.  Upon graduating college, she moved to South Africa on a Fulbright Scholarship where she spent the next three years teaching English.  After returning to Chicago, Alana began working at CMAA as an ESL (English as a Second Language) Instructor and became the Assistant Manager of Adult Education a year later.

Alana is currently the Manager of Civics and Community Integration. In this role, she oversees CMAA's adult education, workforce, and citizenship programming. Her aim is to continue growing and strengthening these programs to serve the needs of the CMAA community.

For Alana, working at CMAA has been an eye-opening experience. She has met and built relationships with numerous community members and recognized the wide-range of services CMAA provides for the community. Having traveled and lived in a foreign country herself, Alana is able to empathize with immigrants and refugees whether it be learning English for the first time or assimilating into a new culture.

FUN FACT | Alana loves animals and recently saw cheetahs for the first time on a safari in South Africa. It was amazing!
