Jirmiah joins CMAA’s Youth Department in a newly created part-time Case Manager (Licensed Social Worker) role. She has dedicated her career to helping young people reach their goals and succeed for over ten years. Jirmiah is passionate about creating safe and supportive learning environments for elementary and middle school students. In her work, she fosters spaces where young people feel seen and heard and uses social-emotional learning to build strong communities. In her role at CMAA, she plans to bring social-emotional learning and wellness to the classroom one student at a time.
Jirmiah is a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) alumna who returned to CPS to intern as a college student. Upon graduation, she joined the CPS team as a Special Service Advocate in Chicago Public Schools, working with BIPOC students and diverse learners. She has extensive experience working in school settings across several districts, including Sauk Village School District, Posen School District, and the Chicago Catholic and Charter Schools. In these roles, she supported students in small-group settings working with them to manage anger, cope with stress, and build self-esteem. Jirmiah taught English and Social Emotional Learning skills in two international schools in Anhui Province in China, and researched social and emotional learning in South Africa in 2020. She graduated from Georgia State University with her Master’s in Social Work and graduated from Bradley University with her Bachelor’s in Social Work.
By fostering student success in academics, career, and daily life, Jirmiah hopes to help CMAA students build emotional resilience, achieve their goals, and cultivate strong relationships with others. Jirmiah hopes to empower CMAA youth to have positive and healthy experiences with their families, teachers, and peers.
FUN FACT | While Jirmiah was living in South Africa she went bungie jumping on the second tallest commercial bridge in the world.
