A Chinese-American, Margaret joined the Chinese Mutual Aid Association in April 2015 as the Youth Department Manager. In this role she oversees the organization's after-school program, working with over 70 kids from various backgrounds and ethnic groups on a daily basis. She also runs the CMAA's Family Literacy Program and Young Women Warriors, a group dedicated to the personal development of young women in the Uptown community.
Margaret's work at the CMAA is inspired by a variety of professional experiences. Margaret has worked in strategic communications, politics, and economic development. Margaret is also a professional writer, and her work has appeared in the New York Times, Crain's Chicago Business, Word Magazine (Vietnam) and the RedEye Chicago.
Margaret is currently a graduate student at the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration, where she is studying social work with a concentration in social administration. Prior to joining the CMAA, Margaret lived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where she taught English and freelanced for two years. While living abroad she traveled to Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, experiencing a variety of Asian cultures and lifestyles
