Client prefers to go by Mei Mei.
Mei Mei is a woman in her 70’s from Guangzhou, Guangdong, China and came to Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) for housing help. Before coming to CMAA, Mei Mei had applied to other agencies in hopes that she would be approved for any available housing programs. Unfortunately, she was not given any follow-ups for any of her applications and had been on the waitlist for 25 years. Mei Mei was losing hope and finding a permanent residence felt like a loss cause—that was until her friend referred her to the Chinese Mutual Aid Association. Keeping her expectations low, she took the chance to get help from Peter Wong.
Peter spoke the same language as Mei Mei which made her feel comfortable compared to the other places she had applied at. Peter took time to understand Mei Mei’s situation and recommended three different senior houses that would work for her. Shortly after, Peter assisted Mei Mei in updating her online application.
In less than 24 hours of applying, Mei Mei received a call from Peter with good news, “Congratulations, Mei Mei! I have received the outreach letter and you are offered a screening interview!”. Peter helped her schedule a screening interview with the property manager at the senior apartment and Mei Mei had options to choose the housing she liked. She ended up choosing a location on Sheridan Road. Mei Mei is quite happy with her new apartment, she expressed that she is settled at the perfect place that she can finally call home.
