When Latana Vongchareun came to Chinese Mutual Aid Association for classes to learn English as a Second Language, she met with one of our newest teachers, Curtis Bell in our Elgin office. Curtis knows how nervous first time students can be with learning a new language. To ease the tension, he shook Latana's hand-- looked in her eyes and said hello in her native Laotian language.
Curtis has always been willing to go above and beyond when teaching those from other countries. He'll put in the research on his student's countries and recognize their native holidays. He'll make it a point to ask them to talk about them in class and to teach the other students about their home countries.
With Curtis' help, Latana continued to work in ESL and then started to work with Ket Hereña as a Home Care Aid. With Curtis' help, she has become one of the best Home Care Aides that CMAA is proud to have.
